Hot air balloons fly in the Four Corners this weekend | News

The hot-air balloons lifted off early this morning in Bloomfield, NM.

This is the fifth year for Bloomfield’s San Juan River Balloon Rally.

Balloonist Bill Lee said he looks forward to the event every year.

“It's the best way to fly...as long as you don't care where you're going or how long it takes to get there,” said Lee.

For Tanya Bounds it was her first flight.

“The sense of being weightless...just kind of floating in the air,” she said. Thirteen balloons flew on Friday. Balloonists come from surrounding states.

They said there’s nothing quite like that ride along the San Juan River.

"It's absolutely gorgeous from the air. You know--you get to see a whole different perspective of what the river valley looks like,” said Lee.

First time riders like Bounds—will also get a special ceremony.

“We can't give you all the details but we will let you know it involves a toast at the end,” said Lee.

Saturday and Sunday balloons will take off from the Bloomfield soccer field at 7 a.m.

Saturday night there will be a balloon glow around 6 p.m.
